Numbats are strange marsupials that live in Australia. For a while they were called "Australian Ant Eaters," until somebody figured out that they don't eat ants, only termites! They also do a really cool trick: they like to hide head-first in hollow logs. Then they swell their rears up until it completely fills the entrance, and nothing can get past them. Makes me wonder if "numbat" means "numb-butt" in aboriginie. |
